Shoeshoeing? So... regular walking?

I'm quite familiar with snowshoeing, but before reading the above photo caption (from "North Shore Rescue crew out on Hollyburn Mountain to retrieve fallen snowshoer" on The Province online on January 5, 2013) I'd never heard of shoeshoeing. Now,

after an update, the photo caption includes a misspelling of Hollyburn Mountain and repeated words. The repeated words are near the end and are repeated from much earlier in the caption. Click an image to enlarge it.

Perhaps.

Perhaps it was never going to be a pretty game, but can't readers expect an error-free article? Soccer players don't get a chance to edit their dribbling before shooting on net, but writers can edit their spelling and grammar before publishing an article. From "Hassli loses his head" on The Province online on March 27, 2011.

Your integrity is confirmed

The writer (of "Fifty-million lottery winner returns to Mac's for cigarettes" on The Province online on October 31, 2010) was doing so well, until she tripped up on the final word of the article. A simple spell check would have caught that. Click the image to enlarge it.

Twi-hard fans

The plural fans should be the singular fan in the photo caption for "The young man behind the fangs" in The Province on June 28, 2010.

believes Burrows story; puts words in Burrows mouth

The story belongs to Burrows, so it's Burrows's story. The writer of this article - "Alain Vigneault slams Ron MacLean in a rare challenge of a specific media member" on The Province online on January 17, 2010 - forgot possession.

The mouth belongs to Burrows. The writer forgot possession again.

issues that effect everyone; Interest seemed to peek on the rare occasion; The Jay Leno Show has pulled in 5.34 viewers

The NBC folks have made some errors in the past year, and maybe the writer of this article - "Leno avoids late-night snafu in act" in The Province on January 10, 2010 - is just trying to match them error for error. First is the word effect instead of affect. Then,

it's another homophonic error, featuring peek instead of peak.

Last but not least, no wonder The Jay Leno Show got pulled - the show has not only pulled in under six viewers a night (I had no idea I was in such select company), it's also been hacking up at least one viewer to create fractions.

U2 will kick off the its Kiss the Future tour

-- "Tour de force (E-today)" in The Province on March 8, 2009

Either the or its will work here - with the latter being better - but not both. Never both.

"It was a lifestyle conflict. They were in very different-places. They are still on friendly terms.

-- "'Bye Milo, hello boys!" in The Province on March 8, 2009

Jettison the hyphen. Insert closing quotation marks at the end.

Lose rock closes road

-- "Lose rock closes road" in The Province on October 26, 2008

The headline confused me even after reading it three times. I then had to read the blurb to make sure it was in fact an error.

she wants to to go

-- "Organization will honour Bourdon at home opener against Calgary on Oct. 9" in The Province, Wednesday September 3 2008

By including this one, I'm making an educated guess that it's a typing error. I don't believe that Hache actually said what he is purported to have said. If only it was the subsequent word that was repeated. "Don't leave me hanging on like a yo-yo."

Martha Reeve's amazing voice reminds woman of all ages

-- "Charting summer's top tunes" in The Province, Sunday August 17 2008

Corrections: Martha Reeves's amazing voice reminds women of all ages

We would have also accepted Reeves', sans the extra s. Reeve's is the correct written form only if the person's name is Reeve.

10-km swim

-- "Silver lining for Whitfield" in The Province, Tuesday August 19 2008

Correction: 1.5-km swim

Unfortunately, due to my laziness in checking when it would be aired, I didn't watch Simon Whitfield compete in the Beijing triathlon. I'm what one would call a casual triathlon fan, so I wasn't sure when I read the article but a 10km swim seemed awfully long. Doing some research by looking at the Triathlon wikipedia page (specifically the Standard race distances section), my instinct was proven trustworthy.

Remains off 55

-- Remains off 55 Tseycum back in Victoria in The Province, Friday June 13 2008

Correction: Remains of 55

I began reading this article thing that 55 Tseycum was probably the name of a highway or road, as in, The remains found off the side of Highway 55 Tseycum.... I quickly realized that the headline had a typo. Read the second paragraph for proof.

HEALTY

-- Advertisement in The Province, Monday May 5 2008

Correction: Healthy. This ad is among the race results of the Vancouver marathon and half marathon.

bib number 1458

The spectators who lined the course of Sunday's BMO Vancouver Marathon didn't need a program to recognize the familiar face that was racing by them.

But just in case they weren't sure, all they needed to do was look at the name on bib number 1458.

"We have our names on our bibs, and so people were all shouting out, 'Hey Randene, get your butt going, you didn't come here to walk,' and that is energizing," said popular 38-year-old Global BC anchor Randene Neill, who finished her first-ever marathon first among The Province's six team members in a time of 4:09.40. "The support I got throughout the race was phenomenal."
-- TV anchor shows there's room for triumph in busy life in The Province, Monday May 5 2008

The article says Randene wore bib number 1458, but in the article's accompanying pic (not available online), she is clearly wearing a bib that starts with a 1 and ends with 41, with her medal obscuring the second number.
