It's the start of March 2014! Which means looking back at February 2014! Let's take a gander at the errors that were detected on <a href="http://ca.yahoo.com/">the Yahoo! Canada homepage</a> last month. On February 2 there was an apostrophe in <i>stars</i> that shouldn't have been there. Plus, in the same-item teaser below the larger version (second from left), <i>appearance</i> was misspelled. Then,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR-jUFV6regSzcPYTeJikcfgwS9M5uryWBTHB4N7nxkgNKhhmK_9BbmwkC0gecOpq04laz5QT349WZZ11yP7_YcCY_tY8e9NqGh64-oed3GI1VMQpoZML0YlmnP1OjEP9IN7bH5XOHdDw/s1600/Yahoo!+Canada+homepage+on+February+25,+2014.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR-jUFV6regSzcPYTeJikcfgwS9M5uryWBTHB4N7nxkgNKhhmK_9BbmwkC0gecOpq04laz5QT349WZZ11yP7_YcCY_tY8e9NqGh64-oed3GI1VMQpoZML0YlmnP1OjEP9IN7bH5XOHdDw/s1600/Yahoo!+Canada+homepage+on+February+25,+2014.jpg" height="160" width="320" /></a></div>
well, then I was debating if the previous post on this blog was also the final one. I'd look at that first image above and think, 'Do I post it all alone and that's it? Or do I delete it and no more posts? Or do I keep this train a-rolling?' The days slowly crept by, and then February 25 happened. I signed out of my Yahoo! email and saw the image above. <i>But their could be</i>? Really? Okay, I'll capture that one and do at least one more post. Then,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_6k6GF0LqA-XWHayQDBsUnsTWGoAybzl1MNjLaijMWrAsIAy9WEMAj4TZ-yhH_qG-xf9zzY0PMi5uhohrZYX9bQleVf3rmZaL7nGbGWkxkLtbT7pr3nNhMjWz3s9-G4ewVao8GP69xKY/s1600/Yahoo!+Canada+homepage+on+February+25,+2014+II.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_6k6GF0LqA-XWHayQDBsUnsTWGoAybzl1MNjLaijMWrAsIAy9WEMAj4TZ-yhH_qG-xf9zzY0PMi5uhohrZYX9bQleVf3rmZaL7nGbGWkxkLtbT7pr3nNhMjWz3s9-G4ewVao8GP69xKY/s1600/Yahoo!+Canada+homepage+on+February+25,+2014+II.jpg" height="161" width="320" /></a></div>
February 25 wasn't done with me yet. At the same time as the <i>their/there</i> error, Yahoo! was displaying this. Get rid of <i>or</i> and you have somethere here, Yahoo! - or, rather, you have something hear. Then,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPDfIbj8WclrrCFjjYyV8gqccxTENLhh7xV5FAZIaaeDwDjgECZkGa9plL4Ku-QnSj0zuZjXY8p4IpUO9qlgfIOUvcN8zBhW8sKjEMDbVsuQoxb6NlmHLsqAVUpsYaW8rm5vDoa-LQAU0/s1600/Yahoo!+Canada+homepage+on+February+25,+2014+III.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPDfIbj8WclrrCFjjYyV8gqccxTENLhh7xV5FAZIaaeDwDjgECZkGa9plL4Ku-QnSj0zuZjXY8p4IpUO9qlgfIOUvcN8zBhW8sKjEMDbVsuQoxb6NlmHLsqAVUpsYaW8rm5vDoa-LQAU0/s1600/Yahoo!+Canada+homepage+on+February+25,+2014+III.jpg" height="164" width="320" /></a></div>
February 25 still wasn't done with me. Displayed at the same time as the previous two images was this misspelling of <i>surprisingly</i>. Then,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1PrS3Fw7Rw4LPcb4lZpHX6FKFqbXfWe3tLXUjN7wsMjNjuMHbzrC2UOrO71vcb0g2ZMcg1o8jWzPJk0rJ3CSQwAMslHzY9rPcqHryX4GA5MSMKEQmRtCypq_4KBHPtoPsMTxhujJ8Mrk/s1600/Yahoo!+Canada+homepage+on+February+25,+2014+IV.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1PrS3Fw7Rw4LPcb4lZpHX6FKFqbXfWe3tLXUjN7wsMjNjuMHbzrC2UOrO71vcb0g2ZMcg1o8jWzPJk0rJ3CSQwAMslHzY9rPcqHryX4GA5MSMKEQmRtCypq_4KBHPtoPsMTxhujJ8Mrk/s1600/Yahoo!+Canada+homepage+on+February+25,+2014+IV.jpg" height="160" width="320" /></a></div>
another one from February 25, at the same time as the previous three! Why didn't anyone didn't anyone notice the repeated <i>he has he has</i>? Was Daniel Radcliffe too much of a distraction for the writer (and proofreader, if applicable)? Then,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1B5tIsth37sz2YboNoRHjU-9cRys64t4qnmRmg3CGtvsOxVSKNDAopLiY4b1V7UQo_w6V4cLtFGzvFFRKXVX00HTgNRfsDIRs3NnBQvfZc1VX9I9F0-IHmjAK61zwcT8lYvlZwd1N5Pk/s1600/Yahoo!+Canada+homepage+on+February+25,+2014+V.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1B5tIsth37sz2YboNoRHjU-9cRys64t4qnmRmg3CGtvsOxVSKNDAopLiY4b1V7UQo_w6V4cLtFGzvFFRKXVX00HTgNRfsDIRs3NnBQvfZc1VX9I9F0-IHmjAK61zwcT8lYvlZwd1N5Pk/s1600/Yahoo!+Canada+homepage+on+February+25,+2014+V.jpg" height="161" width="320" /></a></div>
you won't believe it. Maybe you will. It's a fifth image in the "simultaneously on February 25, 2014" series. <i>How he's trains for the Games</i>. Sure. Whatever you say. Uh huh. Then,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB05e1JufcmzTmsDXEMETOA5qz5hMiupzgJ0aTTU6T-sAXppWTGrbnUhcqFdUXriZBc6yI3DbnMh3b-7oypko0a1XNJQWBPvDpGICRkHTIow-JZjAFRWhIad0rQyXkRXgqaNQcRsFSagc/s1600/Yahoo!+Canada+homepage+on+February+28,+2014.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB05e1JufcmzTmsDXEMETOA5qz5hMiupzgJ0aTTU6T-sAXppWTGrbnUhcqFdUXriZBc6yI3DbnMh3b-7oypko0a1XNJQWBPvDpGICRkHTIow-JZjAFRWhIad0rQyXkRXgqaNQcRsFSagc/s1600/Yahoo!+Canada+homepage+on+February+28,+2014.jpg" height="47" width="320" /></a></div>
from February 28, it's an <i>it's</i> that should have been <i>its</i>. Semi-related, this error makes me want to go visit the monkeys at Batu Caves and the spiders at Penang Hill. And finally (in more ways than one?),<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

later on February 28 I signed out of my Yahoo! email and this was the top story that greeted me. Either <i>his</i> or <i>a</i> should have been jettisoned - can't have both! During January 2014 I detected a few errors on <a href="http://www.cbc.ca/bc/">the CBC British Columbia homepage</a>. Here they are. First, on the second, there shouldn't have been anything added to Vancouver. Then,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The writer of this article - "<a href="http://ca.news.yahoo.com/blogs/dailybrew/mayor-rob-ford-crack-scandal-featured-jeopardy-143653038.html">Mayor Rob Ford’s crack scandal featured on Jeopardy</a>" (where's the ! at the end of <i>Jeopardy!</i>?) on Yahoo! Canada News on January 24, 2014 - didn't do his homework to find out the true value of the clue. I don't know the true value either, but I know it wasn't $80 because the minimum value for the first round is $200 and the minimum value for the second round is $400. Then,<br />

the article also included this tweet from a Toronto City Councillor. $500? Also wrong. In the first round the clues in each category are worth $200, $400, $600, $800, and $1,000. In the second round the clues are worth $400, $800, $1,200, $1,600, and $2,000. And what's up with the apostrophe between Toronto and the question mark? In related news,<br />

There's an extra word - or missing words - near the start of this paragraph in "That's no yoke" in <i>24 hours Vancouver</i> on January 14, 2014. It'd be great if <i>has-been</i> was supposed to be hyphenated and the missing words were <i>the</i>, to go between <i>of</i> and <i>has-been</i>, and <i>was</i>, to go between <i>has-been</i> and <i>released</i>. In "<a href="http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/deadly-highway-claims-8-lives-in-11-days-1.2490673">Deadly highway claims 8 lives in 11 days</a>" on CBC News online on January 9, 2014, there was a misplaced comma in the article's third paragraph. The comma after <i>killed</i> should be moved to immediately after <i>six</i>. Also, note the <i>an</i> that immediately precedes <i>SUV</i>. Then,<br />

later in the article there were three error-riddled paragraphs (three perrorgraphs?) in a row. In the first one, the second <i>stuck</i> should be <i>struck</i>. In the second one, <i>where</i> should be <i>were</i>. In the third one, remember how it was <i>an SUV</i> earlier in the article? Well, now it's <i>a SUV</i>, which is wrong. Also, there's no period at the end of that sentence. It's the start of a new month! Which also means it's time for a blog post featuring all the errors that were detected on <a href="http://ca.yahoo.com/">the Yahoo! Canada homepage</a> during January 2014. Firstly, on January 1, Yahoo! kicked off the new year with a bang (a.k.a. an error) as what should have been <i>evacuate</i> was featured on both the homepage and <a href="http://ca.news.yahoo.com/video/threat-australian-bushfire-forces-campers-113017023.html">the article</a>'s headline, where the error is still present. Then,<br />

on January 5 there was this misspelling of <i>Prairie</i>. Then,<br />

also on January 5, there was this misspelling of <i>restrictions</i>. Then,<br />
<br />

at the exact same time, the homepage was also displaying this Canadian spelling of what's now <i>rumours</i>. Then,<br />

on January 29, Yahoo! struggled mightily in its attempts to spell words correctly. First with the word <i>struggling </i>- at the top it's missing its L and at the bottom right it's missing its R. And then the struggle continues with the word <i>tragedy</i>, in the caption that's second from the left. That's all for this month - have a great February everyone! There were only a couple of errors detected on <a href="http://www.cbc.ca/bc/">the CBC British Columbia homepage</a> during December 2013. The first one was seen on December 9: that question mark should have been after the closing quotation mark. Then,<br />

I'm neither a journalist nor a resident of Surrey, but I know that Surrey's mayor is Dianne Watts. Also, unless the homicide issue was addressed only in November, it's probably more accurate to write, "Mayor <strike>Dianna</strike> Dianne Watts launched a task force in November to address the issue". From "<a href="http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/surrey-highrise-death-police-release-victim-s-identity-1.2481633">Woman dies in fall from 26th floor of Surrey highrise</a>" on CBC News online on January 2, 2014. Happy New Year! It's 2014 and we're looking back. More specifically, we're looking back to December 2013 and the errors that were seen on <a href="http://ca.yahoo.com/">the Yahoo! Canada homepage</a>. First, on December 1, the question mark should have been after the closing quotation mark. Then,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyF6poMiyDs9sx7RWwtcV5yU_T8sb5IvB0xkKM4x3T-v8fuKGFXJDMJJ9NfKRTFuyWZUW9HYAgSCZjY4zRpp7iEFQGbcD7-7hpGIffKxNdL2XngfEcFskl3uxXsV0W1fVnUXEM-dbTArU/s1600/Yahoo!+Canada+homepage+on+December+5,+2013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="64" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyF6poMiyDs9sx7RWwtcV5yU_T8sb5IvB0xkKM4x3T-v8fuKGFXJDMJJ9NfKRTFuyWZUW9HYAgSCZjY4zRpp7iEFQGbcD7-7hpGIffKxNdL2XngfEcFskl3uxXsV0W1fVnUXEM-dbTArU/s320/Yahoo!+Canada+homepage+on+December+5,+2013.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
on December 5 the words <i>say</i> and <i>ever</i> should have been swapped. Then,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZxjlt2oIG8tUbhw6R3HtKJx4ccvVshw_Wtd10IgcL2JM1WD3MPqCuTpb8Iuq5GExQZPIxsPhUEvV8IytLBPNwX0Emzpz7koGeNczZ91EyCxCoTyUh9pQ2ewbe7iLiBg8IZPkLwwTmRAc/s1600/Yahoo!+Canada+homepage+on+December+5,+2013+II.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="184" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZxjlt2oIG8tUbhw6R3HtKJx4ccvVshw_Wtd10IgcL2JM1WD3MPqCuTpb8Iuq5GExQZPIxsPhUEvV8IytLBPNwX0Emzpz7koGeNczZ91EyCxCoTyUh9pQ2ewbe7iLiBg8IZPkLwwTmRAc/s320/Yahoo!+Canada+homepage+on+December+5,+2013+II.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
also on December 5, surely - based on context - <i>leader's</i> should have been <i>leader</i>. Then,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

on December 8 there was an <i>important</i> lesson regarding proofreading. Then,<br />
<br />

on December 11 there was this misspelling of <i>heist</i>. It's another nonword Yahoo! - where is your mind? Then,<br />

The subheadline (of "<a href="http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/what-were-the-top-baby-names-for-2012-1.2479356">What were the top baby names for 2012?</a>" on CBC News online on December 30, 2013) has a terrible spelling of what should be <i>favourites</i>. I would've overlooked the missing U and written that it should be <i>favorites</i>, but<br />

the article's second sentence has the Canadian spelling! Maybe the U in the subheadline migrated east to mingle with the T and the E, and also changed into an I to avoid being spotted. Then,<br />

These three subheadlines, all from CBC News, were seen within a week of each other. First up, from "<a href="http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/lions-bay-mayor-wants-more-barriers-on-sea-to-sky-highway-1.2438746">Lions Bay mayor wants more barriers on Sea to Sky highway</a>" on CBC News online on November 24, 2013, there is this brutal misspelling of what should be <i>kilometres</i>. The article has been updated at least once and the error is still there. Then,<br />

This was on <a href="http://ca.msn.com/">the MSN Canada homepage</a> on November 8, 2013. The first error jumped out at me: the apostrophe is misplaced in what should have been <i>Dragons' Den</i>. The second error, however, snuck up on me. At first I thought, okay, two or more teens have started a successful business. That's a safe and correct thing to think after reading "but pre-teens biz a hit", right? But do you see the link right below that? It says her business. Hmm, I guess there was supposed to be an apostrophe in pre-teen's. So,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCAb3BGTdCRdLP1gvBc0Jazw1g-vwPcpf8kTnVukbUk66KyHYM8IEVr7D6nBaKMEhp1USpUZkuFNNcNoem5kCWxMsEaWJOyN_vRRZkhTA9bU-zAxx-b92EIuaYi5PJ9xsP8oHanRTpcKw/s1600/Article+from+link+on+msn+homepage+November+8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="40" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCAb3BGTdCRdLP1gvBc0Jazw1g-vwPcpf8kTnVukbUk66KyHYM8IEVr7D6nBaKMEhp1USpUZkuFNNcNoem5kCWxMsEaWJOyN_vRRZkhTA9bU-zAxx-b92EIuaYi5PJ9xsP8oHanRTpcKw/s320/Article+from+link+on+msn+homepage+November+8.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I clicked to the article ("<a href="http://money.ca.msn.com/video/?videoid=cbcc2013-0611-2144-0018-241637278200">Toeless socks business booming</a>" on MSN Canada Money on November 7, 2013) and sure enough, the business is run by just one teen. Therefore, in one sentence on the homepage there is both a misplaced apostrophe and a missing apostrophe. But at least the apostrophe in <i>Dragons' Den</i> is correct in the article's subheadline. November 2013 was a bad month for the writers (and consequently for the readers) of <a href="http://ca.yahoo.com/">the Yahoo! Canada homepage</a>, which means there are a lot of errors ahead of us. Here we go. First, on November 3, the word <i>be</i> ought to have been between <i>to</i> and <i>seen</i>. Then,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA-Yfn0a8uaSEhvFuBm1CBuSMeb3a8dPD_uPuq4mdia9-281cyqxHMmv2WEaOjq1j2b3vpzUA-2xr9wDIVIkHfe98UMxI8BMeAMfFV-jfup9RKDXebZ9wz9Gnmx2eu5xNIEj6Koe7fX3o/s1600/Yahoo!+Canada+homepage+on+November+3,+2013+II.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="65" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA-Yfn0a8uaSEhvFuBm1CBuSMeb3a8dPD_uPuq4mdia9-281cyqxHMmv2WEaOjq1j2b3vpzUA-2xr9wDIVIkHfe98UMxI8BMeAMfFV-jfup9RKDXebZ9wz9Gnmx2eu5xNIEj6Koe7fX3o/s320/Yahoo!+Canada+homepage+on+November+3,+2013+II.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
also on November 3, what should have been <i>paleontologist</i> was missing an O. Then,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

on November 8 there was some suspect news" about Rob Ford. He's a leader as the mayor of Toronto, but he hasn't died, by poisoning or otherwise, and I even if he had died I don't know why the Russians would be the top investigators. Then,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

also on November 8 there was an extra word: either <i>at</i> or <i>outside</i> should have been omitted. Then,<br />
<br />

on November 12 hyphens were missing from <i>14-year-olds</i> and <i>hault</i> should have been <i>halt</i>. Then,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

on November 13 there was one <i>the</i> too many. Then,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUlZ8WwtmBEW90k5kwxoBRLDRWXjGZadaccLA2jkf9B66yOS2RM4kEZYwyI1oDkB5dCJexyD_8KIiGE4FdAf_up-mKcgFIeZyH_S5nRh4LIj_t8cLNbuth04i-TxyFPtXT6_H7Dcd8ysM/s1600/Yahoo!+Canada+homepage+on+November+14,+2013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="44" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUlZ8WwtmBEW90k5kwxoBRLDRWXjGZadaccLA2jkf9B66yOS2RM4kEZYwyI1oDkB5dCJexyD_8KIiGE4FdAf_up-mKcgFIeZyH_S5nRh4LIj_t8cLNbuth04i-TxyFPtXT6_H7Dcd8ysM/s320/Yahoo!+Canada+homepage+on+November+14,+2013.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
on November 14 this teaser piqued my curiosity. So I clicked it, and<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
