Man, check your work.

It's Naramata. From "Killed mountain biker identified" in Metronews Vancouver on October 23, 2012.

Tormented by bad writing

If the word children is plural, then what is the word childrens? Trick question - it's not a word. That apostrophe should be before the S. From "Blinded by the light" on the front page of Metronews Vancouver on January 13, 2012.

Condensed badness

This article ("The F stands for fighting" in Metronews Vancouver on November 21, 2011) starts out on the wrong foot with a homophonic error: they're should be their. Then, everyday should be separated into every day both times. Then, The Washington Post should either be written in italics or feature quotation marks. Finally, is the bandmate's name Sky Blu or Sky Blue? It can't be both.

Metronews Vancouverrors

A couple of errors from Metronews Vancouver on September 27, 2011. First, did the writer (of "Transit can be a real pick-me-up") mean she stares at broken lights while in traffic? That would make sense I guess, but I suspect she's actually staring at brake lights. Then,

in "Transformers: Dark of the Moon (DVD Releases)", someone misspelled Shia LaBeouf's last name.

Metronews Vancouverrors

This is the first sentence in "Life after the lay-off" in Metronews Vancouver on April 25, 2011. Effects should be affects. Then,

the same error is present in the article's photo caption. A few pages later,

in "Disaster looms" in the sports section, the backup goaltender for the Vancouver Canucks is Cory Schneider.

I guess the answer is the reader

The question is the headline: "Who's the sucker?" in Metronews Vancouver on March 25, 2011. The caption for the above-the-article photo includes a misspelling of Jena Malone's name. Then,

the article features a misspelling - possibly a typo - of director Zack Snyder's name,

and a misspelling of samurai. The writer seems to have trouble with S-words. Lastly,

it's a repeated misspelling of Zack Snyder's last name. Soooo, not a typo. Click an image to enlarge it.

Accuracy? Nope.

Ryan Kesler of the Vancouver Canucks has a career-high 36 goals (and counting!) this season, which puts him in a tie for 3rd in the league, yet a daily newspaper in Vancouver can't get his name right. From "Canucks preview" in Metronews Vancouver on March 17, 2011.

Our you serious?!

How can a professional writer confuse our and are? I'm baffled. Also, check should not be capitalized. This is from the "Holiday gift guide" table of contents in Metronews Vancouver on December 16, 2010.

Galifinakis

From "Galifinakis draws the library crowd" in Metronews Calgary on August 19, 2010. It's a misspelling, eh. A misspelling in a headline, eh. The writer left out an A in Galifianakis, eh.

Im convinced the young woman wouldnt even have known.; He couldnt say for sure

Interesting errors from "Projectile road debris kills driver" on Yahoo! Canada News on July 7, 2010. The first two errors are missing apostrophes in both I'm and wouldn't in the above sentence. Then, two sentences later,
there is a missing apostrophe in couldn't. There are no apostrophes in the article, but there should be three apostrophes in the article.

until I was eight-years-old; with you ex-girlfriend; Doesn't Jessica Mind?

There is a whole lotta wrong in "Timberlake creatings scents" in Metronews Vancouver on July 5, 2010. First, I wonder at what age - if ever - the writer will learn that being eight years old is different from an eight-year-old boy when it comes to hyphen use.
Then, you ex-girlfriend should be your ex-girlfriend, and I mind that mind is capitalized.

stolen from her parents' Courtney home

The city is actually Courtenay, which is very different from Courtney. From "News in pictures" in Metronews Vancouver on June 29, 2010.

Long distance ruing

The writer of "Sports to enhance your on-court performance" in yesterday's Metronews Vancouver should probably focus more on enhancing their writing than on sports. Long-distance needs a hyphen and running requires three Ns.

Vancouver Secondary School

There are a lot of secondary schools in Vancouver, but there is no such thing as Vancouver Secondary School. From "Anti-HST petition in early" in Metronews Vancouver on June 29, 2010.

Two men dead after fiery SUV crashes into Calgary house; a susipicious vehicle

I saw the above headline on the Yahoo! Canada homepage on June 9, 2010, and thought 'wow - first a vehicle catches on fire, and then it crashes into a house!' Intrigued, I clicked to the article and was disappointed to see that the headline for the actual article was "Two men dead after fiery SUV crash into Renfrew house" (on Yahoo! Canada News on June 9, 2010). Hey Yahoo!, notcie how adding -es to the end of crash changes the meaning of the headline significantly? Then, an error in the article itself:

Do you see the word susipicious? That's a trick question, because susipicious is not a word. The writer ("Peter McCartney, for Metro Calgary") was probably trying for suspicious. A simple spell check would have caught that, but the error remains there six days later so I don't think it's a big concern for Peter or Yahoo!.

Surviving the holidays fight-free can be a challenging but doable

Above is the entire headline and subheadline for the article "Happy couples, happy holidays" in Metronews Vancouver on December 22, 2009. It can be a challenging but doable... what? Instead of trying to complete that sentence, I would have simply removed the a before challenging.

so its looking for its own social media guru to protect its reputation

One too many its and one too few it's. The its before looking needs an apostrophe. This is from "News in brief" in Metronews Vancouver on December 22, 2009.

Dita Teeses new DVD

-- Metronews Vancouver front page on December 1, 2009

Her name is Dita Von Teese, so an apostrophe should be inserted for the above to read Dita Teese's new DVD. I would've thought a top-of-the-front-page tease would have more attention paid to it.

Love-Hewitt

-- "J. Love drops extra pounds" (Celebrity Buzz) in Metronews Vancouver, Monday August 18 2008

Correction: Love Hewitt

Spelled correctly at the very start of the article and under the picture of her - so where'd the hyphen come from? Why not just Hewitt?
