PoCo council votes to raise speed limit; council OK's plan to reduce speed

The above is from "In The Now" in The Now on April 14, 2010. Seems reasonable, right? Let's see what information the page-eight article contains:

Oh...? The article's headline has me confused. Is the city planning to "raise" or "reduce" the speed limit? Now I *have* to read the article to know for sure. (The answer: reduce.)

Norweigian cruise

I'm amused that the headline above - from The Now on April 14, 2010 - has a misspelling of Norwegian, while the photo caption has it right.

Friday's & Saturday's

Take a look at this selected image from the S Restaurant advertisement in The Now on January 27, 2010. You saw the two apostrophes, right? Do you think they should be there? Do you think just one of them should be there? Do you think the selected image should be apostrophe-free? Speak and let me know what you think.

with metals for their efforts

Good use of mettle in the article's headline, but poor use of metals in the photo caption for "Girls display mettle in key mat tests" in The Now on January 22, 2010. Metals should be medals.

Program let's girls be themselves

In "Program let's girls be themselves" in The Now on December 2, 2009, an errant apostrophe is found in lets. It's a page-3 headline.

Steven Colbert; starting with 911

In "Top words reveal a lot about us" in The Now on December 2, 2009, Stephen Colbert's name gets a makeover. Also, while it was 9/11 earlier in the article, the slash is now incorrectly absent from 911.

Coquilam Now

There ought to be a T in Coquilam in the Baby Book 2009 advertisement in The Now on December 25, 2009. Where does the T go? After me.

Update, January 7, 2010: In the January 1, 2010, edition of The Now, the same ad is featured twice and the error is present in both.

If you buy anywhere else you'll pay to much!

-- Maple Ridge Chrysler advertisement in The Now on November 11, 2009

A lot of people consider one error in an ad to be one error too many.

shows off a 17-pound cucumber that made it's way into the restaurant's kitchen

-- Photo caption in The Now on October 23, 2009

I'm showing off an apostrophe that made its way into it's. Please, somebody get rid of it.

Have you ever had problems with your mail being stolen? Just once, and it wasn't a problem.

-- "Now poll" in The Now on October 2, 2009

I've got problems with that second answer. "I have had problems once, but it wasn't a problem." Are you saying that you've had your mail stolen once and it wasn't a problem? That's not what the question is asking. The question is asking if you've ever had problems, so by saying "just once" you are saying "yes, I've had problems". Maybe it wasn't a problem because your life is just one problem after another and so it fit right in?

responsible for the management of our client's advertising programs // this position requires an attention to detail, the ability to mulitask

-- The Now employment ad in The Now on June 26, 2009

Seeing the phrase "client expectations" tells me that there is more than one client with an advertising program, so the apostrophe should go after the S. Mulitask is not a word; perhaps the writer meant multitask. "Attention to detail", huh?
