Crossing too many Ts

Last month we received coupons in the mail for the Dairy Queen/Orange Julius outlet at Coquitlam Centre. Yes, at Coquitlam Centre. What's more, Coquitlam Centre is on Barnet Highway.

I see pink, and errors

That is the first sentence of the online article ("Amanda Todd investigation continues" on Coquitlam Now online on April 5, 2013), and it's the same for the print article as well. After reading sixth months instead of six months, would you have kept reading? Right above that sentence,

there is this photo caption. It would be a perfectly fine caption if there were one person - or even one woman - in the photo. However,

this is the photo. Will the real Carol Todd please step forward? Click an image to enlarge it.

Keep the gates's closed

At Chapters Coquitlam in June, there was a display of many copies of Behind the Beautiful Forevers by Katherine Boo. Next to the display was a Gates Picks notice - A Book Review by Bill Gates. The final paragraph of the notice is seen above, in which Bill's last name is changed to Gate based on the apostrophe's location. Then, it should be Mr. Gates's Facebook page (note the apostrophe-S and the noncapitalized page), and author shouldn't be capitalized. As well, I think a comma before and a comma after the website would be better than having the colon. It's a crap sentence unbecoming a bookstore, but in my view this post doesn't outdo this post. You are name, eh?

Chapters Coquitlam held a Canada Day party on July 1, 2011. Part of the festivities included submitting a name for a large stuffed giraffe and a name for a large stuffed lion. The form above has only five words, but two of the five are misspelled. You're should be your, and what the heck is a laion? As you can see,

other forms had lion spelled correctly, but the you're/your error was present on all of them.

Does that name ring a bell?

This is from the top of an in-store advertisement. Firstly, the author's name is Annabel Lyon. Secondly, the city's name is Coquitlam.

Coquitlam offers a variety of competively paid employment opportunities

Is one of those opportunities that of website proofreader? If so, please give me the job reference number so I can send in my resume. Thanks in advance. From City of Coquitlam's Jobs & Volunteering webpage on September 18, 2010. For the record, competively should be competitively, but is missing two letters - ti - that make up a full syllable. I before E except after C. What discount will I receive for pointing out this error? From a Knights Insulation advertisement in The Vancouver Courier on June 25, 2010.

You don't want to be struck by lightening. It can be 54,0000 degrees Fahrenheit; the first to reach the top was Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay

This is from "Did you know..." in Coffee News - North Coquitlam for February 2010's week 3. First off, 54,0000 degrees? So it's either 54,000 or 540,000 - it's the reader's job to guess which, cuz that's how Coffee News rolls. 54,000 is the correct number. Then, the first to reach the top was Sir Edmund Hillary would be perfectly fine, but and Tenzing Norgay had to be added, so was should be were.

January 31th

There's a bit of a problem in this Xcitement advertisement (seen in The Georgia Straight on December 24, 2009). Actually, the problem is seen twice. It should be January 31st, not January 31th. This isn't the first error of its kind.

The lake and it's surrounding vegetation; Justince Building

In a brochure put out by the City of Coquitlam - "Town Centre Park and Hoy Creek trails" - the word its is home to an errant apostrophe.

The brochure's map features a Justince Building. I wonder what one might find there.

Position being applied; applying for more that one position

While browsing the City of Coquitlam's website yesterday, I found myself on the Jobs & Volunteering Application Process page. After disengaging from the chokehold position I'm not going to apply for more than one position. Only the proofreader position.

If only there was some device that could come in and suck up one of those Cs. Some sort of literal vacuum.

SOLD SEPERATELY

-- Item description card at Toys "R" Us Babies in Coquitlam, BC, Canada on December 7, 2008

Reminds me of a Stephen Wright line: "I bought some batteries but I had to buy them again because they weren't included."
