Do's and don'ts for gals; embrace your Amazonian Anglo beauty for all its worth

This is the headline for an article in yesterday's Vancouver 24 hours on September 11, 2009. If the singular forms of the words are do and don't, why does anyone think that the plural forms should be do's and don'ts? While it's not the first time for this writer, I've also seen the writer correctly write dos and don'ts. I don't get it.

The article itself has an apostrophe in for all it's worth, but the apostrophe mysteriously vanishes when the text is used as an article highlight.
