Train song set of Sheen-Mueller fight

After reading the headline of "Train song set of Sheen-Mueller fight" in yesterday's 24H Vancouver, I was excited to read how a fight could happen in or on sound waves. Alas, set isn't a noun, it's a verb, and of should be off. D'oh.

Puny Sign WIN

The sign isn't smaller than normal; FAIL Blog failed on August 10, 2010, with this misspelling of punny.

'dangerous precident'

The article that the Yahoo! Canada homepage is quoting on August 10, 2010, has precedent correct.

Boy, 3, dies after being run over from SUV

How does someone get run over from SUV? Can't you only get run over by SUV? More questions than answers from the Yahoo! Canada homepage yesterday.

Classifiedsextra.ca

I have nothing to say about this extra-S misspelling from the classifieds section in 24H Vancouver on August 5, 2010.

perform better than those who receiving face-to-face instruction

If that's the case, then this writer (of "Online study 'better'" in 24H Vancouver on August 9, 2010) must have received face-to-face instruction. Otherwise he would have known that it should be either perform better than those who receive face-to-face instruction or perform better than those who are receiving face-to-face instruction.

KEEP MEMORIAL - 41%; RENAME B.C. PLACE - 39%; IN SPIRIT - 19%

41 + 39 + 19 = 99. Where'd the other one percent go from "Yesterday's poll" in 24H Vancouver on August 9, 2010?

Awine flu

I know some people who might like a wine flu, but I also know someone who shakes his head at this misspelling of swine flu in "H1N1 pandemic all but over" in 24H Vancouver on August 9, 2010.

The beautiful Scarlett Johansson talks about married life and her role in Iron Man 2 and Melissa Ethridge performs.

There needs to be a comma after Iron Man 2, and there needs to be another E in Melissa Etheridge's last name. From "Television" in 24H Vancouver on August 9, 2010.

bigger wastelines

When I saw this on the Yahoo! Canada homepage yesterday I thought it had to be a pun. I figured there was no way anyone - not even a writer at Yahoo! - could commit this error. After reading the article's headline and first sentence, however, I realized the truth: Yahoo!'s writing is garbage. Also, the wording leaves something to be desired; so older adults with smaller waistlines are less likely to die? Like, ever?

Classifiedsextra.ca

Don't stop believing that the classifieds section in 24H Vancouver will ever have the correct spelling of its very own website address. This time the misspelling (the third S should be destroyed) is on August 3, 2010. It's a regular thing.

Morrow promptly stuck out Dan Johnson

The writer of "Morrow loses no-hit bid in ninth as Jays beat Rays" on Yahoo! Canada Sports on August 8, 2010, struck out. It must've been swinging because if he'd been looking he would've spotted this misspelling.

Queen of Nanimo; targetted

These were the top two stories on the 24H Vancouver homepage on August 6, 2010. Queen of Nanimo is nonsense (you can see the correct Queen of Nanaimo underneath it), and there is no such word as targetted - the second or third T needs to be jettisoned.

to keep and eye

Journalists are asked to keep an eye on their writing to avoid errors. In fact, keeping both eyes alert and available for proofreading would be a good idea. This is from a photo caption on page three in 24H Vancouver on August 6, 2010. Click the image to enlarge it.
