ADVERTISMENT

Before the paper's design overhaul, a front page advertisement always had a small-print heading of PAID ADVERTISMENT. The inaugural post-overhaul issue had a front page advertisement with a very visible error, but no declaration of advertis(e)ment, paid or otherwise. Above is the second post-overhaul front page advertisement -from yesterday's issue - and while PAID is gone, ADVERTISMENT is present. Overhaul incomplete.

It's been two and a half months since I last saw Vancouver 24 hours with a full frontal advertisement (note the proper spelling), and again the middle E is absent.

Vancouver 24 hours has made this error several times; always on the top of their front page. It's obviously part of a front-page paid advertisement template that is hauled out when needed, but I just don't get how no one has spotted the missing middle E yet.

Last Wednesday 24 hours had the above error on the top of their front page advertisement (note my correct spelling) for RBC - Royal Bank of Canada. I decided to not post it because I couldn't get a decent image of it from the online PDF. However, today's paper has the exact same error in the exact same place, only this time it's an advertisement (correct again!) for the BC Liberals, ahead of tomorrow's provincial election. I decided I couldn't let it go twice, so I got my camera and took a picture of the actual paper.

Those crazy kids in the advertising department are at it again, dropping E every chance they get. Hey, 24 hours, that's at least three times in the past seventeen days that advertisement has been misspelled at the top of your front page. You might want to fix that.

YOU ARE UNDER SURVEILANCE

For the past week or so, I kept seeing notices in Vancouver 24 hours that a new look to their newspaper was being developed and would be introduced September 8. Today is September 8 and the new look is here. The front cover of the first new-design edition is the full-page ad seen above. Well, the ad is actually two pages; it continues error-free on the subsequent page.

As you can see, the ad features an error that is more glaring than all those pesky paid advertisments combined. One would think that there'd be somebody - somebody - at either Virgin Radio or Vancouver 24 hours who knows that there is no such word as surveilance. If somebody gave that L a twin, which is required to spell surveillance correctly, then the newspaper and the radio station wouldn't look so silly. As it is, SURVEILANCE in a very large font size on the front page looks absolutely ridiculous.
