24 hours Vancouverrors - April & May 2013

It's been a while since errors from the pages of 24 hours Vancouver have been featured here, and it's not because those pages have seen perfect writing; it's because I've been accumulating a whole bunch and now it's time to share them. First up, from "Predicting big things from emotional leader Kesler in the playoffs" on April 23, is the above mess. I think it can be solved by removing the is, but don't hold me to that. A couple of hyphens, in full-speed and power-move, would also help. Then,

in "Millennials + managers = meltdowns!" on May 6, gets contains an apostrophe and it absolutely should not contain an apostrophe. Then,

in the photo caption for "Pill bottles debut at advance polls" on May 9, prescription was misspelled. That was on page 4,

and on page 6, in the photo caption for "Riot couple avoids jail time" on May 9, sentenced was misspelled. Then,

in "Hader latest castmemeber to announce SNL departure" on May 15, there was a blatant misspelling in the headline. How was that missed?! Not only is castmemeber not a word, neither is castmember. It should be cast member. Then,

in "Modern thrives on relatability" on May 22, Cam is not Jay's son on Modern Family. Mitchell is Jay's son, and Cam is Mitchell's partner. Good effort there, writer. Then,

later in the same article, it was actually Cam who returned to teaching. Good effort again there, writer. Then,
 

on the same page as those Modern Family errors is this fun alternative spelling of "Gangnam Style" by Psy, which should also be in quotation marks instead of italicized. Click an image to enlarge it.

MSN Canada homepagerrors - April & May 2013

Here are a handful of errors from the MSN Canada homepage during April and May 2013. First up, on April 22 there was only one Ferrari owner, so attack should have been attacks. Then,

on April 28 to should have been too. Then,

on May 14 who's should have been whose. Then,

I'll only believe you if you say it a third time

Here we have the first three paragraphs of "Canucks fire coach Alain Vigneault" on CBC Sports online on May 22, 2013. The third paragraph is an echo of the second paragraph, and "finished seventh in the 30-team in points this season" doesn't make sense. The word league should be inserted between 30-team and in. There's no defending this writing

What the writer of this photo caption - seen at the top of "Canadian cyclist Ryder Hesjedal out of contention at Giro d'Italia" on CBC Sports online on May 14, 2013 - fails to realize is that there is a defending champ every year. Perhaps Hesjedal would've been the first defending champ to win in over two decades. Click the image to enlarge it.

Proofreading kills errors

This misspelling of disease appeared on the CBC British Columbia homepage on April 14, 2013.Then,

later that same day, the nonword was featured in a same-but-different way.

This is normal

Yahoooooo! April 2013

It's time to review the errors seen on the Yahoo! Canada homepage during April 2013. First up, on April 7 Yahoo! provided some breaking news about what food can do for you. Then,

on April 9 I believe the word early should have been between half-hour and for, but that's just my best guess. It'd be nice if professional writers did some proofreading so readers didn't have to make any guesses. Then,

on April 12 bandid was meant to have been bandaid. That's the first suggestion listed when searching for bandid on dictionary.com, and a kissing bandaid sounds like a good idea since we all know that kisses make all boo-boos better. Then,

on April 18 it seemed that a Yahoo! writer plays fast and loose with the definition of typo. Typing teh when attempting to write the is a typo. Typographical error: "An error while inputting text via keyboard, made despite the fact that the user knows exactly what to type in." (Dictionary.com) Typing .ca instead of .com is not a typo. Then,

on April 26 loses should have been losses. See the article for proof - "With his legacy in the balance, Michael Bisping is still searching for that elusive major victory". Lastly,

NHL.com can't get the NHL right

readers can discover the true final standings. Sorry, Lightning. Sorry, Flyers.

Nary is nearly right

I hear he's also a sing

Crossing too many Ts

Last month we received coupons in the mail for the Dairy Queen/Orange Julius outlet at Coquitlam Centre. Yes, at Coquitlam Centre. What's more, Coquitlam Centre is on Barnet Highway.

There are probably 11 featured

Here's the headline of the article ("9 Sex Kinks That Are Kind of Dumb" on truTV online on April 9, 2013) and,

here's the third and final intro paragraph to the slideshow, in which readers are told twice that the article features 10 kinks. Click an image to enlarge it.

I see pink, and errors

That is the first sentence of the online article ("Amanda Todd investigation continues" on Coquitlam Now online on April 5, 2013), and it's the same for the print article as well. After reading sixth months instead of six months, would you have kept reading? Right above that sentence,

there is this photo caption. It would be a perfectly fine caption if there were one person - or even one woman - in the photo. However,
